Established in 1952, Hambledon Vineyard is England’s Oldest Commercial Vineyard. It has numerous sites spread over 200 acres, all planted with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier, the three grape varieties most commonly used in the production of Champagne.
They have 100,000 established vines pruned by hand, and the grapes are handpicked in September and October. The presses and winery are located on-site, which means they can minimize the time between picking and pressing – a crucial factor in ensuring the quality of the wine.
The tour was informative, the views amazing, and we finished the trip by tasting the excellent wine.
