  • Members ‘Food Practical ’ Workshop

    February 29, 2024  7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

This meeting is in St Peter’s Church Hall, Free Street, Bishop’s Waltham, SO32 1EE.

This evening is open to everyone,

Following the presentation on the Art of Food Photography by Paul Gregory on 1st February, this evening will be an opportunity to ‘practice’ some of the advice we were given.

The evening is to be collaborative, with members in groups of 2-3 (which may be based around ‘camera brands’). The aim is for them to help each other with lighting techniques, use of flash, etc., and have some fun with ‘styling’ their food product.

Members are invited to bring along their cameras, tripods, and flash/LED light panels (not forgetting batteries, remote release cables, and camera manuals) if they have them. It may well be that all this equipment may not be needed if we are working together. There will be the opportunity to share information within ‘camera’ brands.

Several backdrops and props will be provided.

Food items will also be available, but if you have cake, bring it along!
The intention is to have 2-3 ‘stations’ where tripods are set up with the camera parallel to the table (what Paul G called ‘flat-lay’).

    • It is suggested that members bring along formatted memory cards to insert into the camera set-up at each station. This will enable them to use the camera and concentrate on ‘how’ to light the product.
    • Various ‘props’ will be available to style your product being photographed.

In addition, a few tables with ‘front-facing’ subjects will be available for practising lighting techniques using ‘static’ lighting or flash again.

  • The best "Set of Three" images

    September 26, 2024  7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

    Location
This meeting is in St Peter’s Church Hall, Free Street, Bishop’s Waltham, SO32 1EE

    Judge - to be advised

This is a print competition (not PDI)

This is where members can be a little more creative in their approach by submitting three images that are linked by a theme or subject. This award is based on producing a set of three prints. The images can be mounted together on the same board (as a triptych) or separately in individual mounts. The 3 images will be critiqued together; how the images are mounted, however, is not part of the critique. Members will be asked to produce a digital triptych to upload to the website for admin/web display purposes.

    • Set of Three or Panel Mount Sizes: Your three prints can be either mounted in individual 50x40cm mounts (or smaller) or a triptych (on one backing board).
    • Labelling Prints: One title to cover the whole set of three, please. Usual label with Author and Title. For individually mounted prints, please also add 'Left', 'Middle', and 'Right' to the reverse so we know the order in which to display the images
    • If entering the ‘set of three’ for the Exhibition, the maximum size of the backing board needs to be A1 or less. This is due to exhibition display board restrictions.

The winner will receive a cup, which will be presented at the AGM on Thursday 2nd January 2025
