Round 4 Print & PDI Competitions

Location: This meeting is in St Peter’s Church Hall, Free Street, Bishop’s Waltham, SO32 1EE
Judge – Carl Reeve LMPA,
Prints –'Waterscape' - (Coastal or Inland)
Waterscapes are landscapes that include an element or body of water, such as oceans, seas, lakes, ponds, rivers, streams, and waterfalls. Seascapes are part of waterscapes but are focused on the seashore and are acceptable.
- Members are asked to submit a digital copy of their print to the website upload facility by Wednesday, Nov 5.
- Bring your mounted print on the evening, ‘book-in’ at the front and place your print on the specified stand.
PDI’s – ‘Open Category’
- All images are required to be uploaded by Midnight Saturday, Nov 1.
- The upload facility will show a specific ‘Purpose’ – remember, this is a single-league competition.
- All PDIs need to be re-sized to the usual 1600 pixels on the long side and 1,200 pixels on the shortest side; square images should be 1,200 pixels by 1,200 pixels.
How the evening will run:
- The Hall will be prepared as usual, and the print stands will be set up.
- The Print competition for intermediate and advanced leagues will take place in the first half of the evening.
- During the refreshment break, the screen and projector will be set up.
- The PDI competition will take place in the second half of the evening.

If you have an issue or believe there is an error with your image upload, please email Kevin at competition@bishopswalthamphotosociety.co.uk, who will attempt to resolve the problem.
Kevin will email a list of entries for the PDI Round on Monday (3rd); please check this for your entry.

Fort Nelson offers over 19 acres of tunnels, ramparts, and artillery to explore, making it a place where imaginations can run wild. Overlooking Portsmouth Harbour, this restored Victorian fortress is filled with weapons from around the world.
Highlights include a 15th-century Turkish bombard cannon, a massive 200-ton railway howitzer, and the infamous 'Big Babylon,' an Iraqi supergun.
Starting on October 22nd, the powerful installation "For Your Tomorrow," created by the charity "Standing with Giants," will debut at Fort Nelson. This moving tribute honors the 1,475 servicemen under British command who lost their lives on D-Day, returning this significant memorial to Portsmouth.

Guest Speaker: Janey Devine FRPS "Documentary'"

About Janey: Having had a career in IT, Janey was an early convert to digital photography and bought one of the first digital cameras in 1998. A few years later, she sold her business and was able to combine her love of the sea with her growing passion for photography.
Experimenting with many techniques, she strived to produce an “impression” of the landscape. In 2008, she was awarded her Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society with a panel of images taken in East Anglia.
More recently, she has become fascinated with documentary photography. She has worked on a number of Social Documentary projects and started the RPS South East Documentary Group.
About the talk: Janey will discuss two of her most recent projects, describing some of the twists and turns and explaining the reasons behind the key decisions that have shaped their development.

The AGM will be followed by an “open-themed” semi-competitive fun competition designed to produce a light-hearted, cheerful club atmosphere. Members are asked to upload up to 3 images by midnight on Saturday, 27 December 2025, resize them, and give file names as usual.
Two images (which should not be from the same member) will be displayed at the same time, and the members are asked to vote by a show of hands for which, out of the two, they prefer. The preferred image goes through to the next round. This process continues until there is a winner.

About David: He graduated from the Fine Art Photography (BA Hons) course at the Glasgow School of Art in 2001 and has been working hard to establish himself as a respected professional photographer and artist ever since. He specialises in long-exposure photography (the art of ‘Light Painting’) as well as macro photography (my ‘Little People’ and Toy series).

PDI’s—' Weather’ This theme is broad, allowing photographers to interpret it in many ways, such as capturing the beauty of weather phenomena like rainbows and sunsets or the power of events like storms, floods, and heat waves.
