At the 2017 exhibition, the Mayor of Winchester presented the awards in our Junior Competition. The quality of the images and the children’s enthusiasm left a lasting impression to the extent that he invited the winners to submit pictures to become the official Mayoral Christmas Card 2017.
The brief was “What Winchester means to me”; no restrictions on the type of image so creativity could be fully explored. On 18th October, a reception was held at the Mayor’s Official Residence, Abbey House for the shortlisted images.
After a tour of the amazing building (and a few ‘gruesome’ facts about Winchester’s history), the Mayor spent time talking to each of Daisy, Charlotte, Scarlett, Helena and Saffron about their images.
Finally, the winning image was relieved as Daisy’s silhouette of King Alfred’s statue with the Guildhall in the background. The children had a great time – and a very many thanks to the children themselves and their parents. Also to the Mayor of Winchester, his wife, and team.
